I don't think that anyone has ever tried this, but it might work. Its almost a goose hunting tactic. Put about half a dozen "feeding" deer decoys in a field of crops. Maybe the deer would just come out and eat? LMAO! That would be funny.

Never hunted in Cali either.
But around here we hunt soy bean fields, corn fields, trails to these fields,and creek bottoms. Just remember, just b/c a buck isn't trying to hump every thing that moves, doesn't mean he is dead. He still eats, drinks, walks around, makes rubs, scrapes, and checks out his ground.

I would agree to key your hunt on the food sources though you may also consider hunting escape routes if the area receives alot of pressure.
