Default Goldenrod Question

Is goldenrod a food source for any game animals? Cover? A local hunting area has acres and acres of goldenrod fields. Will this draw any deer? It sure didn’t bring in any doves. Thanks.

I hunt areas with goldenrod and have never noticed it as a food source for deer. It is helpful in a way, because of its height, you can see the path (trails) made by the deer thru the goldenrod. Just my .02....

Goldenrod is my favorite deer cover to hunt. I love sitting in a hedgerow tree and watching those bucks walk through it. Its great cover and they seem very secure in it. As far as food, young goldenrod plants just emerging in spring have a protein level over 20% and deer will eat it until the better stuff emerges. In my deer pens I encourage goldenrod and ragweed, its 3 to 5 feet of great cover, at no cost to me. It allows deer to get out of the sun, the bugs, and feel safe.

Would a buck bed in this cover during daylight hours? Would it be a good piece of cover to do a small push with a couple of guys?
