Open Sights Or Scope ?
 

Wether you shoot a Hand Gun - Rifle - Shotgun - Muzzle Loader or a Bow.

Wich one do you prefer ?

Open Sights or a Scope And Why ?

I like both but I like to hunt with a hand gun and
Hunt in heavy cover so I like open sights.

So what do you like better ?

on mine m/l i have a scope on it ,my shotgun is open sites ,i like both last year was my first year with a scope,i like it cause you can see early morning or late evening out in the field, and when your in the thick stuff you dont really need a scope

Hmmm... On my Marlin 30-30, I have used both open sights and a small 4x32 Glenfield scope. If I amhunting some serious timber and/or heavy thickets, I'll take the scope off. But then again, if I am overlooking a nice crop field from a tree stand - where I'm going to need a 100 yard shot, maybe 150... I'll put the 4x32 scope back on and bore sight it. But my overall preference is open sights on a 30-30, 'cause it'slightweight,easy and manueverable in the heavy brush..

With my Remington 870 Express 12GA, I just leave it as itis with open sights, and right-off-the-shelf stock. ...ain't nothing fancy. Drop it in the mud, pick it up, wipe it off, and continue on.

i shoot black powder rifle and shot gun but only have scopes on rifle and bp, i use scopes to help enhance my vision add light tomy shots and make virtually impossible shots on deer if i didnt have a scope.

You said that when you need to put your scope back on, you just put it back on, then bore-sight it, then go hunting? remember that bore sighting is not near as accurate as acually taking some actual target shots (it is just to get you"on paper") and I would never recommend that someone go hunting with a rifle that has just been bore-sighted and not actually shot at a range or whatever. I guess if the range of field condition shots you were actually going to take was limited (under 50 yds?) then it might be ok, but I wouldn't trust it. just my opinion

Jr, up to around 35-40yrs old, I used open or peep sights here in FL.
I used scoped rifles when I went out West.
Today I need scope's on everything I shoot. The God given bino's are
not what they use to be.

Oops... Let me clarify.... [:-]

I have taken the 4x32 scope off the 30-30 and hunted with open sights. Then if I wanted to use the scope again, I'd put it back on, bore sight it, AND ALSO properly sight it in at the range. I wouldn't dare go hunting with a scope that wasn't sighted in! [&:]

I too like a scope on my rifle. Even my '94 30-30.
I always read about a scope throwing off the balance
or messing with the aesthetics of this gun but it handles
well to me and the extra accuracy gained is I think very
important. A rifles potential is hard to meet without a
scope, especially with these fading eyes.

I didn't figure you would Butch, from the posts of read of yours, you seem like a pretty solid individual. I have heard of people doing that though, which is nuts.

Scope. Can't see $hit through open sights with my bifocals now. Bad enough trying to shoot a bow.
