Good question. I would say im a meat hunter. Simply because I shoot more does than bucks. But then again I only shoot bucks that I plan to mount or cull from my herd.

I love the meat, yet there is something that just can't be ruled out. I am addicted to big antlers/horns! I am a meat-head hunter![&:]

I hunt because I love to hunt, bottom line! If I've been seeing a thumper during summer and early season, I'll definitely go for him but when it gets down to the nitty gritty in the late season and I don't have a tag filled, well a nice doe will suffice.

Either way, I love deer hunting because it's a challenge. I'm going to contradict myself here and say that even in the late season I'll pass on a young buck (1.5-2.5 yrs) but I want to see them grow. However, I still don't think that would put me into the class of being a head hunter. Letting them grow another year allows them to become even wiser, thus giving me a bigger challenge the next year! :)

I hunt for the joy of being in the outdoors...if I make a kill it makes it all the better and if not I made some new memories with friends and family!

I'm a hunter. I'm just as happy a dropping a doe than taking an average buck. It took me several years of hunting to drop my first buck. Up to that point, I had my share of does and to be honest...after getting that first buck under my belt, it just doesn't matter to me what i get.

For instance, one zone I hunt makes us take an adult doe before a quality buck. On the first day I got my adult doe and was ready to drop a buck the next day. Sure enough, at 7AM on day #2 here comes 3 does and a 6 pointer. The 6 pointer was lagging behind by about 40 yards and the does were almost on top of me. I dropped the two does and watched the others scatter. It didn't bother me one bit that I had to let the buck go.

I use all the meat and if I am so lucky to get many deer, I donate them to my fire department for their annual venison dinner fundraiser.

Meat... if it has a nice rack... even better.

I hunt for the hunt not the trophy. I am just as satisfiied with a 2 points deer, or a doe than a 12 pt. Don't get me wrong, if I see a large buck with an enourmous rack I will shoot. but meat before rack.
