RE: Head hunters or meat hunters?

Both, we love venison so the meat is very important but I still hold ontomy 1st either sex WT Deer tag for a mature buck. If the season is dwindled down and I need more meat I will take a doe over a immature buck to fill my tag.

RE: Head hunters or meat hunters?

Generally I can get enough meat to last the year just from either elk or moose.
I'll shoot (or participate in the harvest) of either one or the other as long as it is legal..This is my meat for the year.....
Don't care how big they are..
But mule deer must be at least 160B&C net or better if I am to harvest one..I don't settle on anything smaller...
If I happen to harvest a sheep or goat I'll pass on shooting a deer but will help in the harvest (spotting, scouting)of deer for family members and friends.

I would have to say I'm a meat hunter...sure I dream of taking the big ones, but right now my goal for this years buck is to be at least a 4pt. (last year was a 3 pt.) so eventually my buck standards might classify me as a trophy hunter, but right now I love the meat and I will always be happy with any venisonI harvest.

I'm a meat hunter, but definately have to get a nice buck at some time. Jeff, no matter how big of a buck you hold out for, that little gal in the pic in your signature is still not going to show up at your house for a photo shoot!lol:D

Meat first and formost, then horns, Nothing less then a 8 point. I would rather shot a mature doe than a inmature buck, gotta let them grow to get big. plus does taste better than a rutted up buck

Beef and chicken are too cheap for me to hunt deer solely for the meat, so I would have to call myself a "head hunter" more specifically a "big horn hunter".

I do my part for Quality Deer Management by filling several Antlerless tags every season. ONLY MATURE deer get my intrest. Obviously, the main goal of the season is to harvest a mature buck though.

For those that say they hunt for meat and THEN a buck??? Bucksare ALL meat last time I checked? :D

AMEN!!! Why in the world won't more folks think like this!!!Why is it difficult to grasp the concept for many???Take a Doe so the herd won't grow and let the lil' ones walk! Unfortunately, many folks still think that it is a "macho" thing to blast that lil' yearling 6 pointer just so they can blow to their buddies at the local Pub that they "got their buck". :([:'(][:@] Of course the number one excuse for shooting an immature animal..... "I'm a meat hunter". My question is always, "Why in the heck wouldn't you have taken a Doe then?"
