What gun safe should I get?
#1
I am looking for a heavy safe (over 300 pounds) that will hold my 6 long barrel guns and is fire resistant, but am willing to shop around to get the best deal. Any suggestions on what brand to get, and whether to go direct to the maker or dealer?
I would appreciate any advice. My son is getting old enough that it is more dangerous having guns not locked up, albeit unloaded with ammo elsewhere.

I have an American Security safe. It is really nice. It's along the lines of the top of the line Liberty or others. However it was quite a bit less than a Libery. My Dad has a Liberty and it is really nice too. It's up to you, and really depends on how much you want to spend. In my opinion you are better off spending a little more and getting a real good, fireproof safe.

My brother-in-law just dropped $1000 on a new freedom gun safe for the most valuable part of HIS STAMP COLLECTION...LOL Not top of the line by any means, but good for what he wants I guess. I told him he needed to buy at least 1 gun to put in it but he said "no way my stamps are more valuable than all the guns I could put in the safe." He has at his estimate $50,000-$60,000 worth of stamps. crazy huh? Get some help to move the safe as the safe he got was very hard to move with just 2 of us.

You could buy a lot of guns, bows and hunts with that. LOL

I bought a Ft. Knox safe at the Capital Sport & Travel show here in Northern VA several years back. That was by far the best investment I've made so far. I got a 16gun safe that also has shelves for ammo, powder, documents, pistols, Etc.. I opted for non-gloss finish but I included the de-hydrator. I think I payed around 1200 plus $50 for delivery, which I highly recommend. There's a Ft. Knox dealer in Vienna VA that would probably serve Maryland also. Or, you can check them out at any of the local fishing & hunting trade shows over the next few months.

I have had a Fort Knox for 14 years. Good safe. check with some of the dealers and see if you can get one with a scatch or dent or a customer return. You can often save several hundred $s.

I recently bought a winchester brand gun safe from sam's club for $899. It holds 22 guns maximum and is fire rated. I've been looking for a couple of years safes comparable to this always ran $300-400 more at safe dealers and sporting goods stores. I studied the issue a lot and this was by far the best deal I've found.

I pulled up Sam's Club on the internet and didn't find anything while screening on "safe." I am looking into the others and should make a decision within a month or so as to what to do.
