the 300 mag is a great round for deer or elk . I load the 165 gr btsp and have never had to shoot one twice .

I've never used a 300 mag on deer, but know several people who do. Heck my uncle uses and shoots a lot of nice buck with his .340 He says he likes the knockdown power.

If you have long shots,the .300 is the right choice...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

It's good for dropping deer at short distances, too. I love mine, don't want anything else.

how big is it compared to a 30-06 or .270..is it smaller or bigger..and i don't think its bigger than a 7mm and a 7mm isn't to big for deer..just hit them right and you won't waste any meat, you can lose alot of meat from an arrow shot deer aswell so its all in the shot placement.

The 300 Win Mag is bigger than the 30-06, and 270. It's basically the same case as the 7mm Mag, but with the wider throat, of course. Packs some serious wallop.

To all who replied, a big thank you!!!! I was a little hesitant at first but your help has confirmed my decision. I ordered a the Leupold LPS today. I hope to get the scope on and the barrel conditioned in time to try it out on some pesky coyotes before it's too late in the year. I also am a big advocate of the double-lunger. I'm glad to hear the 300 Win Mag isn't too much for the that. Like many of you said, &quot;it's all about shot placement.&quot; Thanks again, shoot straight and good luck.

I'd rather have to much than not enough power.
