Default Quail in SF bay area, california

I was just talking to my dad about how i never see quail here around San Francisco. He says the presidio used to be full of quail when he was a kid. Anyone know why they aren't as many? I'm guessing its because of development.

I think quail are going to be rare in such an urban setting. I have seen a fair number though while hunting in rural parts of Yuba county.

We seem to have a lot more than usual here in San Bernardino this year. Probably because the fires drove them down from the mountains. But hell, I'm not complaining (except about how quail season isn't open yet, lol).

There were a lot of quail around Stanford when I was there in the late 60's/early 70's. Maybe they got smart like a lot of us and moved on.

I grew up in the Napa Valley, just north of San Francisco, and the quail hunting was awesome.

Right on. I'll be moving to Napa Valley for my game warden training. Good to hear I can still hunt my beloved valley quail.

we have tons of quail down here in AZ, 3 different kinds. I was walking around my 2 acre house lot and kicked up several dozen.
