California - Fort Hunter Liggett
#1
Has anyone hunted Fort Hunter Liggett? It seems like a pretty good chunk of land out there. Is the hunting good out there? Just thinking of maybe a spring hunt that could be done on a weekend.

Located in the center of the State near Kings City, or 75 miles South of Monterey has allot of great hunting. They have Tule Elk, Muledeer and Blacktail deer (closer to the Coast), small game and pigs. Huge area but controlled hunts to limit hunter numbers. Have to choose an area and stay in the area. You have to check in and out every day. I haven't hunted there in a few years but when I did I always got a nice pig or at least saw them. Good luck and great hunting.

I did not know that mulies were that close to the coast. Regardless it looks like good hunting area, I am not to sure I like the whole check in and out, and having to stay in a certian area.

Matthews - I think you are mistaking my signature pic for Fort Hunter Liggett, lol. That is a picture of where I go hunting sometimes here in Nevada.
Thanks for the info, I also contacted the information officer at FHL, but I have to apply for vacation to hunt on the weekend, so it may not be a great idea for me to go, in case the base gets shut down for whatever reason. Then I would be out my vacation and the money to get there.

If memory serves me right, i think that area is a great hunting area for hogs. I know that central coast area is known for good hog hunting. I am not sure why you would come to CA to hunt when live in Nv. I would rather go to NV and hunt big game, although you don't have wild hogs to shoot in NV. I plan on putting in for a archery hunt in NV. next season, close to the CA state line.
