RE: elk bullet
If you're a reloader, I'd try and get a load for the Nosler Partitions. As far as the Core-loks go, Remington has been loading them for decades and alot of game is taken with them every year. I have a good friend who carries them for elk every year and has been very successful with them. He's never had a problem and has taken many elk, so they do work. Just my $.02

You do know that at 400 yards the 06 w/ 180gr Barnes XLC is still carrying a ton of energy?

RE: elk bullet
My dad and I both use Rem Express Core-Lokts in our 06. Both use 180 grain. My dad uses a soft point. I use a Pointed Soft Point. I've gotten two elk at 300+. One of them was a one-shot kill and the other went right through shoulder and he dropped in his tracks. My dad's gotten two elk as well (100-150 yds). Not sure if they were one-shots or not.
My mom uses Rem Express Core-Lokts in her 308. We try to get her to carry the other 06, but she doesn't feel as comfortable with it. She's actually gotten 3 elk (<50 yds, 150 yds twice), 1 one was a one-shot kill and the other two needed a follow up. However, this is all we've ever used. So, I can't really compare it with other brands. Matt |
RE: elk bullet
Would you say that a 160gr 7mm mag is dropping like a brick too? both the 06 and 7mm mag drop roughly 15" at the distant, seems pretty flat to me.
