Seattle area hunters help!
I"m over here for a week for training staying in the Bellevue area. I need a hunting fix and I'm looking to do some shopping. I need to find a Cabelas-like store anywhere in the area. Anyone that can offer a good hunting store please let me know.
Thanks. |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Power,
Man you don't know how big of a request that is! The biggest sporting goods place for hunters over here is Cabelas online. The biggest hunting section I've been in in this state is Wal-mart in Colville! You can find like Garts sports that has guns & Army Navy stores but that is about it. There are way to many tree hugging granola eating save everything freaks over here, they would protest a store like that out of business. If you're looking for outdoor stuff in general check out G I Joes, REI or Sportco. |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Thanks Bldhound. Kinda what I thought. We're pretty lucky in Wenatchee, we have a store called Hooked on Toys. 1/2 kids toys and water play toys (river runs through middle of town) and the other 1/2 is fishing and hunting. Really good prices and locally owned, it's the 1 store to hit anytime you're around Wenatchee.
Been to Garts and REI and don't really need to go there. Might try out the GI Joe's or Sportco. What's Sportco like? Big5 like? |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Sportco & Big 5 are about the same, just change the face of the store & you're there!
Thanks for the info about Wenatchee, I'm gonna be spending more time over there real soon. I have to call the orchard manager in a few minutes to find out where & how much property he has to yote hunt on. If I'm lucky he might even open it up to let me & crew to hunt more than just yotes!! Says he has a real problem with them...............................a orchard, you think? LOL |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Kind of thinking that might be the case.
Let me know if you need any help with them yotes. I have a .223 that's been idle WAY too long. Heck, I might even know them. |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Will do. Just posted on your other message about your website................way cool, thank you. I'm one of those people that likes to fish but, I LOVE to hunt. I'll stop by Wenatchee this Sun afternoon to meet the guy. If he has a real problem, I'm sure he would welcome more people to roll up & rain on that place.

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Sounds good. Give me a call when you get in town. I'll PM you with my name and phone number.

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Hey Power, if your up to a little driving, you might try coming up to Everett and go to Jerry's Surplus on 17th and Broadway. Not quite Cabelas-but one hell of a lot better than Big 5 or Gart when it comes to hunting!!
There is also Northern Sales in Mt. Vernon_Basically the same store, both being "duffle bag" outlets. Ain't been on in a while, or I'd have replied sooner!!! ![]() |

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Thanks Summit Dawg, I might just take a trip North this afternoon!
There are a lot of Tri-State Outfitters in E. Wa. that usually have a pretty good hunting selection. I know there's one in Moses Lake and one in Pullman/Moscow (in Moscow, ID). |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
What about John's Sporting Goods next door to Jerry's? Is that any good?
|
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
You know what hours they're open? Thanks.

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Summit,
Where is Clarks All-sport? I didn't think Power would want to "battle" the traffic North on 5 in the afternoon after he got out of school.[&:] That's why I didn't mention Jerry's, Northern sales or the store in Bellingham on the SW side of town..............forget the name right now. Then there's Kelly Holleys in Sedro Wooley as well or whatever name it's going by now. Power, sorry to "Assume" you didn't want to drive a little. I drove up past you last weekend, went up through Darrington just south of Rockport to a gravel pit & did some shooting. I'm trying to redeem myself.:) |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I plotted the map to Everett and traveling I-5 after 5pm won't probably be worth it but if they are open until 9pm or so I might head up there after 7pm or so. I ain't scared to drive around but I'm not stupid either. I know what the traffic is like over here (used to live here after college) but not going to kill myself to go shopping, especially when Cabelas is only a few clicks away.

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I understand ;) ! I sure hope this weather goes back to crap.............we can't have to many good days in a row up here or people will start talking. Then everybody will be moving in from other states & I'll have to commute from E berg/gold bar/wenatchee! :D
Hey Power, where does Falcon work exactly? I work 777 final assembly/functional test. |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I emailed him for his dept.
Commuting would almost be the same amount of time sometimes I think! |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I think it would even be quicker on some days( Friday when it rains)!!!!!;)
|
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I don't know on that one and I think they close at 7 or 8(Jerrys) 425-252-1176.
Also, Clarks is on 395 on the south end of Colville;) ORIGINAL: Power What about John's Sporting Goods next door to Jerry's? Is that any good? |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Summit thanks for the info I'll stop in this weekend.

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
There was talk of a Sportsmans Warehouse building on the westside - they almost had one up in the Tacoma area, but it fell through - then, talking with the guys at the Spokane Sportsmans Warehouse, they said they were looking at Marysville. That got me REAL excited, but I haven't seen anything starting yet.
Anyhow - I keep hoping. If you haven't been to the Sportsmans Warehouse (Kennewick & Spokane) you ought to check it out if you are in the area - closest thing to Cabela's that Washington has. |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Dan McKinley told me it will be opening in May out in Gig Harbor.

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
:D Hey POWER, did you ever find what you were after???
|
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
The best store in this state (as mentioned by others) is Sportsmans Warehouse in Spokane. No other place comes close and the westside is especially grim pickings. - - - I do most of my shopping online from Cabelas, MidwayUSA, Natchessz (always spell it wrong), etc. Good luck, - - - Pointshoot

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I gave up eventually and just went to Fry's instead.

RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Hopfully they'll put a Sportsmans over here, we need it! I went into Sportco to pick up some more shells, could you guys beleive they are plum out of turkey loads[:@] That is certainly the last time I step foot in that DUMP[:@]
Power, have you limited out on your Central WA bird yet;) They were pretty talkative last weekend until the shootin' started. I went last night and today and only heard to Gobbles, and they weren't to interested? Hopefully those Hens[:@] will be leaving soon... |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Man, I had training in CA all last week and just got back at midnight last night so no turkeys for me yet. THe first weekend was frustraiting but will be out there tomorrow. Too many people the first 4 days. Wish I could have gone today but wife and house were needing me. Hopefully I can get away from the crowds and find some birds but no time tonight to go put one to bed so I'll have to fake it.
Good luck Trapper and let me know if you have any extra's up your way! |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Extras? As far as the Toms, opening weekend, we heard probably at least a dozen different toms on just two ridges, and only two shots, ours and one other. So I don't think a lot got taken, I don't notice many guys getting out of their rigs either. And these ridges aren't even the ones I went on during the youth hunt(where we heard a dozen or so) So I don't think many toms have been bagged, I don't know how much pressure they get during the week, I didn't noticed much in the way of new footprints(human) out there so I think it's pretty light. The shots we did hear seemed to shut them down and I think right now it is typical a downtime for the gobbling in that area. I kick myself a little for not going today, last year on this weekend they were hushmouthed on saturday but were pretty talkative on sunday(the day I got mine) so I probably should be there but I needed to hang out with my Wife andDaughter a little, next weekend I'm going on a private land hunt in Rice with a tom that has about an 11 inch beard:D
|
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
Went out today and hiked from dawn until around 3pm. Never heard or saw a turkey (except the one hen I saw on the drive in and then again on the drive out). Managed to sneak up within 30 yards of a doe before she fed around behind me and caught my scent.
I don't know, the birds in the area I'm hunting were pretty talkative last weekend but there was a lot of pressure. Hardly any pressure today and I never heard a gobble all day (and the area I hunt you can see and hear for miles). I had my radio on scan mode and heard a couple guys in the area chasing around some birds but the one guy was directing his buddy to them and the buddy never saw them. Got them to cluck a time or two he said and then they shut up. I think there must still be enough willing hens so that the Tom's aren't quite desperate yet. My season is almost over though as I work all week and had company this weekend and next and then gone for vacation so it's not looking good for me this year. I need to find some new spots as all my areas from last year have been hunted pretty hard this year. |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I think right now they're in a lull, some things I've read on gobbling peaks say that they peak around the 15th of april and go into a lull until the 1st or 2nd week in May. So hopefully we'll see those hens[:@] take off soon...
Sorry to hear your getting a ton of pressure, with the word getting out a lot more of the Coasties (myself included) find out about birds within a 2 hour drive they'll be more and more. The positive I see is that the terrain around your area and where I hunt is so similar to the N.E. that I can't see any reason why these birds don't explode population wise like they did over in Colville...Let's Hope:D |
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
I understand that too. I would rather come and hunt this area than drive another 2 hours to hunt the N.E. corner where most of the land is private. At least there is a ton of public ground around here. I did manage to get out Monday night after work and found a pair of 2-pt Elk sheds, saw 2 bull elk with 3+ points starting to grow, and a gobbler. Unfortunately the gobbler wasn't very hot and quit gobbling after a while and never came in but I had him all to myself in a new area and it was so nice to be alone in an area with turkeys. I'll probably go back up there again soon, home sick today so just watching turkey hunting videos and dreaming of hunting. I did have a dream last night, strange enough, that I got my turkey. Hopefully that will turn into a preminition for the season!:D
|
RE: Seattle area hunters help!
That's a bummer on the sick part, especially during any hunting season, and with the nice weather to boot[:'(]
Well, yoou'll be abck out soon, and heck your not doing bad, on shed hunting anyway, I can't even find a single deer antler yet |
