wulff,
I am from Idaho and although I don't hunt traditional I do know how lucky I am to hunt bugling bulls in september. I get to live my dream hunt every september. But I use a compound bow and was lucky enough to get a 5x5 bull this year.

Here in oregon its easy to get the tag (except they keep getting more expensive) And there are lots of places to go hunt them. I got my first one this year ( A smaller sized cow) But arhcery is the way to go for them cause general season you can hunt just about all of oregon without a controlled tag, the woods arent over ran, and you get about a month to hunt them. Rifle hunters only get one week. From a friday to friday. And I heard that is going to get shorter also. And I very much love living here with so much game to hunt from a ten minute drive (deer not elk) to a 2.5 hour drive is all I go to get what I want. I never want to live anywere else except for maybe alaska

You might want to try a hunt swap. It is a great way to hunt a different state with people who know it without paying outrageous guide fees. I fullfilled a hunt with a guy from Alaska, he took a very nice 6x6 bull elk. In return he is setting us up with a float trip for Alaska moose and caribou with the bow. Give it a try. You might be surprised. I have hunted your neck of the woods for many years. I know that there is some good hunting back there. A guy who hunts muley country would probably jump at the chance to hunt whitetails.
