Default California 2012 big game season is coming

Got my new 2012 hunting license and deer tags yesterday.

This all started with a dream. I dreamed I was bowhunting in the mountains, and just as I was about to take a shot on a buck the size of a dinosaur, I remember that I had no license or tags with me.

Must have been my brain reminding me to get this done before it is too late.

California begins selling licenses and tags for the coming summer and fall hunts on April 15. Its the only good thing about April 15. Guess I waited 2 weeks longer than necessary.

For some big game you can still get them over the counter here, but you need to go to certain sporting goods stores, which have the linked computers to the state DFG. That's what I did, and that's how I got them right away.

The next step is dig up my maps, charts, and notes from last year.

Then lay out all my gear, to get ready for the pre-hunt scouting season.

Coastal Zone A for bowhunting opens in 11 weeks here. No time to waste.

From now on, the hunting regs booklet and the dates chart will serve as my bible for the next 6 months.

Finding a good web forum to discuss hunting issues is a good thing also. Hopefully this is it.

Well I have done a ton of scouting, and some bowhunting, and the A zones (north and south) look a lot better than the Sierra zones.
