My cousin and I began the planning for next years hunt recently. Number one area on my list is the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness area in Idaho. Anyone have any experiance in or around there? The trip would be self-guided. I would be targeting Bear, Mtn Lion, and Wolf. What is the terrain like? How much hunting traffic does the area see? Share some info if you can, Thanks!

Were your trips self guided? I have never been out west, I live in ohio. That's what concerns me a little. The pics of there look beautiful! But the terrain looks a little rough to! We would hike in with limited supplies. Spend the week hunting and fishing. Anyone do any fishing up there?

For a 1st time I would camp along the road and hunt a diffent drainage everyday, get to know the country . You can hunt off the road up to 5 miles and back a day with out carrying camp.
[ some places]The salway is full of cutthroats more then anyplace I have fished,You will love the place or hate it, no middle ground in the salway or level for that matter.Anything I else I 'm here. Why not elk and deer??
