What do you make of this
Greets folks,
Got a question for all of you. This has been eating at me since I went hiking and scouting around 3 or 4 days ago. I was investigating an area I may want to hunt in and havent ever been in. I find a big open area, well kinda open had lots of little pine trees none over 10' tall and most under 6. The problem is this, I parked off the gravel logging road and soon as I got out of my rig I smell somthing. Looking around I found what appeared to be the remains of an elk that had been boned out. I figured it hasnt been but a month or so since the season and didnt worry about it.
I started hiking around, and after a while on the way back to my rig, I took a different route back, I find bones, all over. at least 2 or three deer sized animals. Then, and this is the worst. I ame across what appeared to ve the carcass of a goat. just dead and rotting not skinned not nothing.
My question is this, what do I make of this? and if I decide it could be foul play ( ie poachers or other ) who do I call? Do I call?? Hope you guys can help me on this one I am perplexed, dont want to go crying wolf over nothing, but I dont want anypoachers ruining it for us either.
thanks in advance
Just my uneducated opinion!

Call your state game department, let them know you think you found a possible poaching site. Their law enforcement people will get in touch with you and investigate.
As much sa I have been in the back country, I have found placeslike that and made the call. Your DNR people can't be everywhere, and can use all the help they can get. And, if your wrong? Maybe they can tell you what adn why so you won't error again, but... the chances are something is going down.

YES BY ALL MEANS GET IN TOUCH WITH FISH & WILDLIFE PROTECTION OR WHAT EVER THEY WOULD BE CALLED IN OREGON. IF IT IS POACHERS THEY ARE STEALING FROM YOU.
THEY MAY WANT TO USE A BIONIC DEER TO TRY TO CATCH THEM IN THE ACT.

POSSIBLY A MOUNTAIN LION? WINTER KILL DEER?
I WOULD STILL MAKE THE AUTHORITIES AWARE OF IT . LET THEM FIGURE IT OUT.
JUST SOME ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS I HAD.<img src=icon_smile_blush.gif border=0 align=middle>

Absolutely, call the state police and let them sort it out. Then if there is something going on, you have done your part in helping keep the few from ruining it for the many. Report all violations, and the ones they can, they will prosecute.

Greets,
Well, I decided after reading some of the replies ( guess I shoulda known anyhow ) to contact the police, ccouldnt find anything under game warden, or game enforcement in the phone book, so I went to thier website and e-mailed them. An officer called me last night, and after getting directions to the location he said they would check it out. He thought it might be a dump site for the hiway department when they pick up road kill, but said they were going to check on it to be sure and he'd contact me if they needed any further info.
Thanks guys, and to anyone else reading this who isnt sure like me, go ahead and call em if you think there is a problem, worse case you give an officer an excuse to take a ride in the country.
