Default what type of vehicle do you suggest?

Hi all,

I'm a new member to huntingnet, and I'm a recent east coast transplant to the west coast. I was wondering what type of vehicle do you gents use when you go hunting. I'm planning on hunting deer and wild hog on public land. I've heard that places like shasta and northern sierra california requires 4x4 to be insure safe hunting experience. I was just wondering what the more experience members would suggest. The soul reason that purchasing a 4x4 is not a slam dunk for me is the poor gas mileage they get to regular trucks.

Thanks ahead of time

Try a toyota pickup. Not one of the newer ones, early to mid 90's are the best. They have excellent gas mileage, go forever, and if slightly lifted above stock, will climb anything. Plus, they have the power to haul anything you get

Something like this one will do.

1994 Toyota 4 cylinder pickup:

Lock Right Lockers
Headers
Cat Back System
Linex Bed Liner
Receiver for De-mountable 6,000 Ramsey Winch
BFG All Terrain Tires

Get a 4x4 pickup. Late 80s to mid 90s Toyota pickups sellpretty cheap. The Toyota four cylinder is more durable than the V-6.

in todays economy anything 4x4 that gets decent to great gas mileage.

toyota pickup, jeep (i personally would get a jeep- i own two, brother has one, and my cousin has two and we have zero issues thus far), toyota 4runner, chevy s10, chevy blazer, any of the smaller pickups or smaller SUV's getting 20+ mpg freeway would be a great choice.

i am in CA and will say that a good 4x4 will make a big difference in getting to areas that will give you access, assuming you are not a road hunter, to many more acres to hunt.

I have a '98 Isuzu Trooper 4X4....for me it's been like a mountain goat and very dependable. I also have a newer Jeep Wrangler that we have not had out much, it hasn't been very dependable on paved roads yet...I am not knocking jeeps in general...just this one.

I have an '08 Nissan Frontier Nismo Crew Cab 4x4 and I love it. 261hp 4.0L V6 and gets 22 mpg highway. Has an electric locker in the rear and 32" BFG Rugged Trail tires from the factory. I love it!
