Default Is 243 enough for mule deer

Heading west wmy sonthis fall for mulies. He hunts w a 243 for deer out east, 95 NBT or 100 NP. We'll be bringing both his gun and a 30-06 out w us.What are the opinions on the 100 NP for mulies out in WY. Is it enough, or is it too much on the light side. Want to make sure he goes w the right gun, particularly if a long shot is needed. thanks.

Simple, Yes! I killed my first mulie buck with a 6mm remington, A 200yd shot dropped him in his tracks! Not to mentiona 400 pound Black Bear. Also one shot, ofcoarse a well placed shot is critical!

Last season my friend's 15 yr old daughter took a good sized Muley doe with a 243 @ just under 200yds. She was a fat one too (the doe that is). No issues.

Your 243 will work just fine, as long as you place your shots where they need to be.

thanks. I think he'll be more confident w that anyway. how about sight in distance..100 or 200? Not sure of a typical mulie shot, out east 75 is a long shot, in the woods of new england. How about Elk w the 06, 200 yards make sense? thanks.

I zero at 200. With my 7mm. Rem. Mag. that's about 1.3 over at 100. Make sure you know where you are at 100,200, and 300. You'll have a lot more confidence. Where in Wyoming are you hunting?
