RE: Ekalaka Montana
I think the genetics aren't there for a monster buck...
and the ratios seem to be out of whack, so if you can harvest a few does for each buck, that would only help. I'm not sure pressure is the problem as much as the genetics... If out that way stop in at the local taxidermists and ask what's good for the area... But I think 150"+ would be pretty nice. |
RE: Ekalaka Montana
I would check with the MT Dept of Fish, Wildlife and Parks regarding block management program opportunities in that area. Go to the FW&P website for futher info.
I would also check into the Custer National Forest (U.S. Forest Service)which has extensivepubliclands in that area. Do a search online. Check the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the Montana Department of State Lands as well. Best luck to you. |
RE: Ekalaka Montana
2nd that for custer natl park. also, would call the region 7 fish/game wildlife station, biologist there was very helpful, also can send you the block mgt booklet which has maps, land open for block mgt, including acres, etc. You would then request phone numbers for those landowners and then stop by to meet them. good luck.
