Alaska caribou
Is there a good caribou population near the Talkeetna Mts. of Alaska? What other area would offer good caribou hunts? What charter services would you recomend that charge less than $1800 for a caribou drop hunt?

RE: Alaska caribou
I went to the Alaska website and found that there is very limited to no hunting in any areas except the Alaska Peninsula and western artic areas. I still have the question about the charter services for area 17B.

yeah, lilhunter, I went to the Department of fish and game website, and in most areas of the state, there is no hunting of caribou for nonresidents, and in other areas a mandatory drawing with no more than on caribou, usually a bull.

RE: Alaska caribou
yuppers, registration hunt!
Also dont forget the central arctic! Fly to Prudhoe, hook up with ABM...he can fill ya in on the slope and who to fly with. I have flown with Dave Neil from Happy Valley and Coyote air from Coldfoot. NO drawing there and ya can shoot 2 bou. A decent amount of good bulls up there, obviously it doesnt compare with the Mulchanta.
heres another, no limit no closed season unit 8!
one bou per day, north of the Yukon unit 18
so far havent bothered with the one total areas or even the 2bou total areas, also no drawings, and I am quoting non res limits.
22A&B 5 total, no closed season, for that matter all BUT 22c 5 total!
unit 21d 5 bou total
unit 23 5 total, no closed season
remainder of unit 24 5 total
25 A&B 5 total, remainder of 25 D 5 total
26A 5 total, no closed season
portion of 26b and 26c 5 total.
Lots of opportunitys!!! Hope that helps some.

RE: Alaska caribou
Lilhunter,, thanks for responding, I've looked at those areas too, but it would cost too much for me to go up there. I would only be able to take two caribou anyway, and I have heard good things about the Mulchanta herd. Just the flight from Anchorage to one of those connecting cities would cost almost as much as a charter from Kenai area. Plus the cost of shipping trophies back, I wouldn't be able to afford it. Thank you though, I appreciate the replies!
