RE: Colorado Turkey Hunters

Well went hunting for four days, called in 4 tomes and one jake. I did not shoot as I wanted a longer beard but this was the best hunt I have ever had!!!!!!

I called in two toms and they started fighting never saw that before it was great, they forgot about me lol.
The jake came in with a tom he ignored my jake but the real jake beat my jake up, never saw that either.
Called to another tom he wouldnt come in so I cut the distance in half then he came right in, beard to small.
I think I will go fall hunting this year never been before any tips?

Sounds like a great time!! Fun to see those gobblers go at it like that. Can't wait to get back out there and try to score my first Merriam.

RE: Colorado Turkey Hunters

Hello:

I'ma recent arrival toBuckley AFB (Aurora, CO) and was hoping to get the chance to harvest a Tom this season butbeing new to the area I have absolutely noidea where to hunt public lands. I purchased an over the counter license this weekend and was hopingthat one of you kind souls could point my 14 year-oldson and Iin the right direction. I know it is late in the season but witha 14 year-old showing an interest in turkey hunting I figure better late than never.

P.s. If possible...we would prefer to hunt in the Denver or Colorado Springs area. We have beenhearing some info about Rampart Range Road (near Castle Rock)so I broke out a mapand took my son upthis weekend for a look see and allwe saw werea bunch ofdirtbike and quad riders.

Thanksin advance,

jgriffie

Sorry for the revive

Sorry to revive this old, long dead thread, but I am new to Turkey hunting, I have been a Whitetail and small game hunter for basically my whole life but I have never done birds of any type before and just picked up a new Mossberg 535 and bought myself an OTC turkey tag. I am an Army recruiter working right beside Buckley AFB in Aurora, CO and am looking for some information on good places to go try my hand at getting a gobbler during the spring season this year in my area. I would prefer a close bit of public land but am not completely opposed to taking a weekend tent trip. Like I said I have never hunted turkey before in my life so I really have no idea what I am doing beyond reading tips on the DOW website and NWTF website. So if you have any tips for Colorado turkey hunting along with the tips on where to go for public lands that too would be appreciated.

First Time Turkey

Hi just following up as I am in the same boat. My Buddy and I both avid Elk hunters are looking to find areas for turkey for us and our 3 teenagers.

I live in Monument and read a couple threads saying western Monument is good but looks like those were from 2008.

Anybody have any recent experiences?

Thanks!!

Yea they are still there. I was out checking my cameras yesterday and ran into them. Just got to put the time in and you will find them.

Larimer County

Went out opening day. Saw lots of other hunters, but didn't hear any birds. I'm an experienced turkey hunter, but first timer here in CO. Anyone know if our NoCo birds are gobbling yet? I didn't have time to scout, but went to areas where I'd seen birds in the past.

I'm under the assumption it may be a bit early for them to be hot to trot...?

1st year in Co

This is my first year Turkey hunting in co and I have had no luck I've been to rampart range and I'm trying to find somewhere that I'm guaranteed to get a gobbler. Any advice?

bosworth 04-20-2013 11:08 AM

Are the turkeys gobbling yet or what? Bc I've been different places and I've called and called with no response.

I wasn't hunting but saw a couple hens last weekend on Rampart but it was so windy you couldn't really hear anything. There were a lot of hunters but most were on the road. Just get into the creek beds and away from the road.
