Default Map of Skookumchuck Res area?

Can anyone tell me where I can get a relatively current map of the area around the Skookumchuck Reservoir? I've looked on Terraserver and Topozone, and the latest one I can find is a topo from 1980 and aerial from 1990. Who would I contact? Also, how do you/can you access the area between the reservoir and Vail(Bald Hill/Baumgard Creek area)? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey Slee - I was at the outdoorsman warehouse in Spokane last month, and they had topo maps broke down by hunting units... Great idea - I've also seen em' at some of the sportsman shows... I'll do a little digging and see if I can come up with something more...

by the way... I don't know if you have ever been to the sportsman warehouse... but it is like walking into a Cabela's catalog... AWESOME store... The only reason I mention this is two fold... if you are ever over on that side, check it out, and I was talking with the guy there, and he said they were building one in Marysville! WAHOO! Imagine that right next door to me... <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Anyhow... I'll do some diggin' on that map dealer

Thanks for checking. I'm trying to track down a Vail Tree Farm map right now. I've got my hunting partner who works in Yelm checking at some of the local stores for a map. I've figured out how to get to the spot I heard birds last year, but now I just need to see the shortest route in. I need a current map for this, and the topos I've found don't show all of the roads in there.

Thanks for the offer Shaunpm. If my partner isn't able to find one somewhere in Yelm, I'll shoot you an e-mail. I don't have one at all, so anything would be better than the 1980 topo maps that I've found. How much of the area around the reservoir is in the tree farm?

Thanks WANWTF. I checked it out last night, but it appears to be the same topo that all of the others are, from 1980. There's got to be a more current one out there somewhere. If I can get a Vail map, I'll make do with the topo I've got. I just want to know where the roads go.

Thanks Shaunpm. I' ll let you know if my buddy strikes out on the map in Yelm. Keep me posted on your scouting efforts, and let me know if you want to try to coordinate a scouting trip together at your spot.

Slee,

The Weyerhauser Vail Tree Farm map will be of help. You can get one at Metzger Maps, right off the freeway in S&gt; Tacoma on T. Mall BLVD. around 64th street. They have all kinds of WA state maps too. The Weyerhaueser maps ONLY show roads though- will not help if you want topo.

You may want to check out those GMU maps mentioned earlier. They are topo, and show GMU boundaries very well, but are not nearly as large a scale as USGS topos.
Place is L C Sportsmaps, 20606 SE 24oth St, Maple Valley, WA, 98038; 425-432-5508.

FYI: it is often hard to get a truly up to date topo of industrial timberland because of the constant road building and cutting/regrowth process.

That area is not real hard to figure out with a WEYCO map and a couple scouting trips.
