RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Just getting the word out -
Washingtonians for Wildlife Conservation web site is http://www.w4wc.org. This organization lobbies the state government on issues pertaining to hunting, hunting rights, and wildlife management. One of their current main pushes is to get a law passed that takes wildlife management out of the initiative/referendum process so it is based solely on sound biological science - doing that would preclude the dumb laws like those that come out of votes on initatives to stop hound hunting for bears or stop trapping. They are conducting a fund raiser to support their "1713/Public Trust Doctrine" lawsuits that target the idea of wildlife management via initiative/referendum process - they are suing to make the case it is illegal to do that. Tickets are $1 apiece. First prize: choice of Spirit of Washington Dinner Train for Two, Bill Stewart Signature Takedown Recurve Bow or Mossberg 835 12 Ga. in 3.5" Camo; Second Prize: 7.5 pounds of smoked salmon; Third Prize: 4.5 pounds of smoked salmon. Raffle tickets can be ordered by: contacting their web site, writing to Jeff Christensen/WWC 6119 144th St SE Everett, Wa 98208 Calling Jeff at (425) 338-5454 Drawing to be held December 8th in Ellensburg. http://www.wanwtf.org Edited by - WANWTF on 09/19/2002 08:12:52 |

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Evening all. I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I hate to think about it, but it looks like my early deer season is over. My work schedule is picking up, and I can't talk the wife into making her day off next week a hunting day for me. Imagine that. I'm not that mean, but I wouldn't tell her no if she offered. Oh well. When I head back to MS for the Thanksgiving holidays, I'm living in the woods. I've got almost 200 acres of family land that I know a few 8 & 10 pointers roam. But when I come back, it'll be elk and deer in western WA. If I get another opportunity at a Wapiti, maybe I won't blow it. Y'all be good.
Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em! |

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Well after my computer crashed and working everyday, I haven't had any time to get in here to chat..
A brief update since my last post. The taxidermist I was taking my game to, passed away this year. It is sad, cause he was a nice guy and did a nice job, and was inexpensive. I thought I was going to have some prime hunting land for waterfowl, but the guy turned out to be nuts!!!!! Nascar, he wants $1500.00 for the season and is going to let in 5 different hunters and only has about 2 good spots to hunt. If you are interested, I can give the name. Ft Lewis is asking for hunters to register thier weapons and asking for a complete description of the weapon.?? The draw this year was OK, I still haven't hit one on the elk side with 6 points for next year. But did get a doe. The weather has been so dry, I am sure the archery hunters are finding a lot of timberland closed. I didn't get a chance to read all the posts, and I hope everyone is doing well. I am not working as much now so I will have more time to keep up. Later BRian |
RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
WAYNE1 - Hi there ! Its been awhile, but glad to hear you guys are doing well. - - Our buddies in the Basin have a several labs and a Chessie among them. Don't know if they will be using them when we go out to hunt honkers. It all depends on the volume of shooting that we run into. A couple of seasons ago we were hunting out of a large cornfield with a good size group of guys and the birds were coming in hot and heavy & we were doing lots of shooting. The dogs did a great job retrieving the downed ones. - - Canadians are big birds, but when in large cut corn field stubble with the rising sun in your eyes and lots of shooting its easy to lose 'em without the dogs. - - We'll have to see how things look this coming season to see if Shooter might be able get a lesson or two from the experienced dogs. - - Are you planning to train him for upland hunting? There's lots of grouse in your neck of the woods. Take care & Good Hunting!, - - Pointshoot

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
Pointshoot777......Have'nt tried Shooter on upland yet.....seem's like I've been busy just about every week-end......cutting wood....chopping wood. Our spring went dry a couple of week's ago so bust hauling water. Would be neat to have Shooter work with someother dog's.....but don't want to ruin anyone's hunt. Last Saturday I was down in the lower field.....trying to see what kind of deer population I have hanging around....that evening....lot's of Doe's came in ...including a doe with little spike bump's on her head...then a large bear came in to one of the apple tree's....but alway's stayed about 70 yard's out....to far for my bow skill's...lol...so the next evening went down to the same spot again....the first thing out was a nice 4x4 whitetail buck....well actually he was a 4x5 cus he had a double brow tine on one side....he was within 15 yard's from me for about a half hour....did'nt take the shot though.....would like to see Diane take a try at him........Well....take care....and tell the Family "HI" from us both....Wayne

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???
WAYNE1 - sounds like you guys are busy over there with all the work youre doing around the place. Well, it does keep a guy in shape ! - - Got a 454 wheelgun I've had awhile that would give you a little more range for that bear (while still being a good challenge) - - but 70 yds would be a bit of a stretch ! ;) >> Tell me how things go with that whitetail buck and send pics when you guys get him ! - - - I'm hoping that the weather up north gets cold early this year. The reports I've read say the geese population is at record levels (same as last year). It'll all come down to if we can get them headed our way during the season. My fingers are crossed for a cold snap that hangs on for months. - - There's no problem with bringing Shooter out for a hunt on our end. The dogs usually hide under big magnum sized goose decoys until the shooting begins. Of course, since you'll be tending the dog you won't be able to shoot so that's a consideration for you. - - It'll come down to the weather and how many geese are moving. If we get lots of birds, you guys might have opportunities to come over more than once. One time you could be in 'dog training mode' and another you could be in 'shooting mode'. The family says "Hi to you & Diane!" Take care & Good Hunting!, - - Pointshoot
