RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

What's going on today??? Hello Robb how are things Goin, and the car, How do yuo like it. You need to get back over here to do some hunting.

Slee, I hear ya, But I told my wife if I killed a bear I would give the pelt to my partner since he wants one real bad. Problem is, I told my wife that and she said no way!!! Even after I told her how much it was going to cost, she said she wanted a bear rug.

I have a real cool idea for a cougar, but I have to kill one first. Haven't heard aboout the elk in those areas, but my season is a full week down south in the packwood area. If I go archery, I might be looking to hunt a little closer some.

Hey Moose, I will ask him again. I think he is cheap cause he doesn't have all the extra expenses of a business that has to pay a lease. This guy does a nice job. Like I say, he had some African Game that was waiting to be picked Up. Also a cool bobcat, full mount sitting on a nice piece of wood.

Well gotta go to work, take it easy

Gator - wish I had that problem w/my wife! I can't get her to eat anything that didn't come in seranwrap... Oh well, all the more for me !

Could someone tell me if bear is worth the effort? I hear the meat taste nasty and I'm not adventureous enough to give it a try - If you can make the meat taste good, I might actively persue em'. Same w/cat.

THINGS ARE GOING GOOD, GETTING THE INSURANCE ALL SORTED OUT AND THEN WAITING FOR SOME PAPERWORK TO COME FOR MY WIFE TO FILL OUT AND THEN WE WILL BE IN BUSINESS. I WOULDN'T MIND COMING HOME TO DO SOME HUNTING. HOPEING I GET PROMOTED AND THEN I WILL BE ABLE TO AFFORD COMING HOME TO DO SOME HUNTING.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

WANWTF - In my opinion, bear steak is excellent! But then again, it was probably one of the first solid foods I ate when I was just a little tyke (about 40 years ago). And if you don't like the steak, it makes excellent polish sausage. As a matter of fact, if you plan on attending the June 18 South Sound Longbeards meeting I'll bring some sausage along for you to try.

I haven't eaten cougar since I was about 10 but I remember my family talking about it tasting like pork chops. If I shoot a cougar I plan to save at least the backstraps.

Slee, I'm no expert but from what I can tell, a tanned hide is just that. There is no softening of the paws or ears to make them look natural so they tend to be hard and mis-shaped somewhat. When they turn it into a rug they work them over a bit to make them look natural like a live animal. Also, my bear rug has some padding and two layers of felt underneath. It also has a raised skull with an open mouth, eyes, etc. So there is a fair amount of extra work when you have a rug made versus a simple tanning. I'm sure there are some taxidermist types out there that can explain it better than I can. Have no idea how much an elk mount might cost.

Robb - Next time you are up for a promotion let us know and we will all send your superiors e-mails with our personal references! That ought to get you back here hunting where you belong in no time. :)

Thanks for the info Moose Eyes. I hate to think about it, but I doubt I'll be in a position to argue a $600 taxidermy bill with a wife who could care less if I ever spent another dime on hunting. She doesn't mind me going, but she wishes it was free. I'll definitely be asking for some recipes if I run across one though, rug or no rug. I hear they make an awesome stew too.

Hunt hard, live right, and tell your kids you love 'em!

Maybe I'll make a case for driving down there -- I also need to get one of those shotgun raffle tickets, as well as find out what help we need with JAKES and WITO... So it'll be good to meet ya.

RE: ANYBODY FROM WASHINGTON STILL AROUND???

Hey all,

When I kill a bear, I will keep some steaks and the rest will be jerky , sausage , pepperoni. Same with the cat. I wouldn't recommend cooking it in the house. I like it in the smoker or on the grill---outside.

Naascar, do they let the non-military in with military personel?? I would like to hunt Chambers Lake this year for waterfowl. We had some good hunting out there.

My wife has been hunting with me before and will eat anything except the ducks. But she has eaten duck jerkey and didn't know it. My girls will eat the deer/elk but I can't tell them ahead of time.

My 10 year old went duck hunting with me last season and had a ball, except for the gun going off. Gave her some ear plugs and she was happy.

It's hard to keep up with everyone one here, so hello to everyone and take it easy.

Later

BRian
