Default Heading to Montana

Heading to Montana to do some Mule Deer and Antelope hunting this month. Counting the days can be so hard.

Passing the time on here is helping but not enough.

Drinking might work better.

I shot a great mule deer and my brother got his first antelope with a bow. We saw a huge amount of game and many many big bucks.

Dandy buck! I hope I get one that nice some day. Most of my mules have been 3pt or smaller.

I was in E. Montana near Fairview. Those pine trees are just shrubs that are around the breaks. We hunted right where the vast prairie and farmlands butt up against the breaks. West North West of Fairview. We had a great week, as you can see. I was thrilled to get a crack at that guy. Got him by sitting hidden along the edge of the breaks and running ahead and cutting off the MD as they made their way across the CRP. Sometimes you get lucky and they come down the koulie you are sitting in. Lots of the time they split up at the last minute and you wonder where they went.

We also saw a lot of WT's in the 125-140 range and a few bigger and a lot smaller. Saw over 50 MD every day.

Good luck out there. Just beautiful country.

It is tough to hunt in Montana sometimes. Lots of deer, but they change their pattern every single day. Third trip out and I shot 2 deer(1WT and 1 MD) and my brother has only gotten 1 MD. But we do see huge deer every day, just out of archery range.
