My buddy hunted there last year and got me to go this year, then I got a 3rd seasontag and he didnt. I usually hunt up north and have never hunted around Eagle area. He says he will go with me in Nov. for a couple days but that probably wont happen. So, I am trying to find out any info on areas to start in. I willnot be able to scout or start hunt till Nov.5th. I have taken lots of large archery bucks so I will be looking for a decent buck. Is it worth buying elk tag? thanks for the reply thanks again for any info Gregg

I hunted it last year. I’ve never seen more hunter’s in my life – every where we went there were hunters. Not like we were ‘road’ hunting either. We hiked in several miles into multiple wilderness areas only to compete with hunter’s that had been ‘drop camped’ by outfitters and other hunter’s that were hunters on horses.
Don’t expect to hunt the ‘nice’ plateaus and open area’s without a lot of other pressure. Look for the nastiest crap (timber) around and still hunt it. It’s the ONLY place we could get rid of the crowds.

if they get any weather down there during 3ed season, you're going to have an awesome hunt! Look for "Castle Peak" Wilderness area. Its a good hike but the deer ive seen pulled out of that area are just friggen monsters.
I went there during muzzleloading season this year and we got 2 nice sized doe's.
It ws 80* at the time and to damn hot for elk hunting.
