I will say this, about 90% ofthe hunting land I use is public land. All of my deerand turkey was done on public land. It's out there you just have to find it. Ihave had very good luck in San Diego especially for birds. If you are paying, maybe you are not looking hard enough. Don't me me wrong, hunt clubs and leases are great but there is plenty of public land there.I said it before and I will say it again, there are better deer areas. However, I would not let that stop you from hunting on public land. Good Luck.

camelcluch, just to set the record straight I don't pay to hunt anywhere in San Diego, my point was that if someone doesn't have time to explore the public areas and they hunt where the masses do then they will probably get discouraged.I have been very successful and it sounds like you have too but I promise you that 70% or better only take their gun for a walk in San Diego county.

usa should be nice hunting with the weather we've had snow is just above Placerville now. I've seen plenty of coyotes in the area the last few months. All the growth around here is turning them up. We had a bear run through here a few months ago. Probably heading for the sanctuary of the prison.

Try Cronin Ranch in Lotus it's BLM Property and with the snow in the Sierras should be plenty of hunting in that area, it's part of the American River area Northwest of Placerville.

Talking about hunting in California...can you guys give me some pointers about hunting pig on public land in central northern California?
I'm going to Lake Sonoma next week, and will try to check Hunter's Valley few weeks from now...
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Rookie, I would like to help you out but all of my pig hunting is at Fort Hunter Ligget/Tejon ranch or Bryson Hesperia Lodge in Bradley Ca near the fort. Check out the forum at Bryson's webpage you can get a lot of local info, good luck, Bill
