Default Colorado Muley hunt

I'm thinking about doing a do-it-yourself mule deer hunt next year in Colorado. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to go and what am I looking at as far as $ go for the tag?

Tags are under $300. If you have any preference points go southwest but if you need a tag you can get every year go either north central or north west. I just took two guys from Florida to a unit just outside Denver on a swap and by the second day of the season both had bucks. If you want a little more info let me know. Jovan

This will be my first muley hunt. I'm not looking for anything monsterous, but would like to have the oppotunity at a nice deer. What I'm really wanting is a velvet buck.

Wanting a buck in Velvet your going to have to hunt with a bow in SEPT. That might be a little harder. You might start looking for a guide that guides only bow hunters. Good luck. Jovan

It takes some points to get a early "high Altitude" rifle hunt. Bow would be your best bet, if you don't have the PP's built up and want to hunt right away.

Unit 15 and i can scan a map and put you exactly in the area you want to hunt daily! best thing about this area. You only have to walk maybe 70-80 yards from the road lol! Not true about getting a buck in velvet in sept. I got one in sept and it had zero velvet. The higher up you go, they will not have it on their antlers. Let me look through the map and see what i can come up with. Very easy area to find on the map. Get a doe tag for sure!
