Montana birdhunting, Powder River
#1

On my flight out to MT for pronghorn this season, ran into a few old timers who have been hunting along the powder river for 30 years for birds. They talked about great numbers of birds, sage, sharptail, pheasants, etc. If my mind wasnt only on goats-- I would have gotten more details. I'm a big bird hunter out east, and the partridge numbers up in NH, ME have been steadily decreasing.
Anyone have experience w access to the area-- We goat hunted nearby, but not along the rivers. Do bird hunters need to work within the block mgt system as well, or are ranchers more open to given access to bird hunters. anycomments would be appreciated. thx.

I've bird hunted eastern Montana for several years, and did so by knocking on doors. However, times they are a changing. People from out of state are "discovering" eastern Montana and several parcels we hunted for years have been leased up. Not sure about PR country, give the doors a knock and find out. Bird hunting is outstanding in eastern Montana.
