or it could be sunny/sleet/rain/snow 75 degrees to 25 degrees all in the same day! in I think 1994 it was a balmy 65 degree day the day before elk season in Pagosa Springs by 5:00 pm it had dropped to 30 degrees and was laying down 34 inches of snow by morning. spent 1/2 of opening day towing people out to the road so that they could go home, for those of us that stayed it was a banner season.

Septober weather is OFTEN 20 deg F at night and inthe morns and 70 deg F by noonish. Prepare for the best and worst. Last year we froze in two days of bitter winds and snow and the third day were hunting in tee shirts.
It's sort of the old ' if ya dont like the weatherjust wait 30 min' thing...
Good luck.

A couple of years ago....there was 12" of snow on the ground when the season started, then it warmed up to 65 deg......then latter in the week it got so dang cold & windy that it was hard to stay in the woods. Like every one else said.....take multiple layered gear.....good luck Jason

I live in loveland (50 miles from WY border) and let me tell ya, in section 28 (near fraser) we hunted first season rifle in october and it was 30 degrees at night and 60 to 65 in the daytime. Then the snow came in. There were hunters every 10 feet shooting at movement in the aspens. We left early. I can take the weather, but unsafe hunters are intolerable! EJ
