MONTANA - CABINET MOUNTAINS
Does anyone have a opinion on hunting in or near the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness in northwest Montana? Of course As a non-res I realize my 1st obstacle is getting drawn for the license. If fortunate to get drawn, I can easily make a few scouting trips over from north ID. However, it always is nice to here what some others have to say that have maybe hunted the region in the past. I hunt both archery and rifle but prefer bow season. I would be after elk primarily and deer secondary. Any knowledge and/or opinions would be appreciated. I see a lot of guides operate the area but my hunts are all Do-It-Yourself. Thanks in advance.

I'm not too sure what your question is but i live here in the drainage on the west slope of the rockies and on the east slope of the cabinets along the B.C. and montana border. Its kinda like mountain goat country and lots of wilderness. Solo is the only way as your chances on deer are excellent depending on how choosey you want to be and the elk herds are not big here, but you got to do your homework. Good luck.
