We hunt them in ND, I've only done it once though - and went out to the western portion of the state to do it. There's not as many in the eastern portion of the state. As far as taste, some people hate them, some love them. I'm in between.

I have had a tag once in SD with no luck. 5$ a tag. The next year I could have shot them on an extremely windy day flying off their roost over the road like 5 YARDS HIGH but didn't have a tag. I heard they are not good eating and that if you send your dog after a cripple they will peck it's eyes out!!

i know they hunt em in TX too ... and they do decoy ..... we didnt get to pull the trigger on any .... but i know people there that decoy them .... ya can also make the calls of the cranes with a goose flute or ya voice to catch their attention ... i once called in a a flock of 50 or so with my voice over goose dekes .... then flock after flock dropped in with the first 50 til there were 500 or so walkin round the spread ....was cool stuff

I saw a lost pair a few years ago here in Ohio.
Those 2 are the only ones I have ever seen in Ohio.
We can not hunt them .
