Default Duck food?

I plan on planting my one acre pond this year if I can find a food that will grow in undrained water ranging from 1-12 feet deep. This year I had quite a few mallards and such come into my pond, more than ever before. Also would getting some baby mallards and raising them in there help bring ducks in?
This is just going to be a project I am going to piddle with, all info is greatly appriecaited!
Thanks,
Robert

If you have clear banks then you may try some jap millet. some times if you have a good thing its better to leave it alone. Im sure you already know but if the birds you raise dont leave then you cant hunt it. You might check out the delta sight for mallard hen boxes.

Like 80 proof said, Japanese millet on bare banks may be the best bet. It is normally planted in late summer when your water will probably be at its lowest. It needs to be sown on bare soil. It won't germinate underwater. The millet is an annual and will need to be planted each year, but if you have vegetation year round, then you may be looking at algae problems. But then again, with a 1-12 foot depth you might not grow enough to worry about algae because most vegetation won't grow past 3-4 feet.
