50-60 yards? I didn't think lead shot was capable of downing a mallard at those kind of ranges? Does anyone else hear have success at those ranges?
Like I said in a earlier post, I'm a rookie at this duck hunting stuff. So, take this as an honest question. I'm not trying to offend anyone.

Bismuth and Matrix are very similar to lead. With a full choke, you can kill ducks to 60-70 yds. with 4's. That said, I've never known anyone who could marry a full choke pattern with a moving bird at those distances with regularity, only luck. That's why I'd suggest sticking with the modified 5's if you're a good shot. Over decoys at 40-50 yards max, use 6's.

Yea also in order tio shoot bismuth or matrix you need a decent sized wallet. Well round where i live you do its like 15 bucks for a box of 15 shells of bismuth. id rather draw them in a lil closer and take them out neway. no offense to yeoman
if you got it spend it.

For decoying i like either 3 1/2" Ultra shock #2's or 3 1/2" #3 speedshoks, i WILL ALSO COMMENT i LIKE TO RESTRICT MYSELF TO 10 - 35 YARD MAX SHOTS. I also use Improved cylinder choke alot, i like to throw a good pattern out there not just a tight little column!

I usually get what's the cheapest that day. It's almost always 2 or 4 shot. This year I am shooting 4's. Last year I did a bit of goose hunting so I shot 2's. I think either will work fine.
