Default Hevi-Steel

If anybody here is using Hevi-Steel I would appreciate your feedback. I used Remington Hevi-Shot last year but am considering the new Hevi-Steel due to the price difference.

It is made by Environmetal Inc. they make Hevi Shot also . I tryed a box $22 per 25 3" 1 1/8 zo 4 at 1400 fps I think on ducks better than regular steel but not as good as Hevi shot.

The Mack's catalog has an ad for Hevi-Steel towards the very back (page 135 in the Winter 2004/2005).

Also, the Winter 2004 Delta Waterfowl magazine has an article (Shooting, page 20) on all types of shot and what is needed to kill ducks with a 95% or higher probability level (235 foot-pounds per square inch). Allegedly this new Hevi-Steel is deadly at 41 yards with #4's that shoot 1500 feet per second. Remington Hevi Shot #6's were good up to 46 yards and moves at 1,325 feet per second. Of course you get more chances with 6's over 4's but for 60% less money I hope this new Hevi-Steel works. I bought a couple of boxes for $19.99 per box of 25 (Remington Hevi Shot is around $20 for a box of 10, highway robbery in my opinion). Hopefully we will find out tomorrow.

Did you order it or find it at a shop?

I got my Hevi-Steel from a local store, Mean Mallard in Jackson, MS. And they only had four cases left. The only other place I know of is Mack's. They had an ad on the web site a week ago. It now reads:

”Currently ...we are re-doing this Hevi Steel area of our Menu.

If you need further assistance you can send us an email, or call and speak with one of our customer service specialists at 800-229-0296.”

Unfortunately I had only one chance to use it yesterday and it ended up being a cripple. Of course one duck can't tell the tale.
