Default Wild story

Have a believe it or not story for you guys. I was out shooting Snows yesterday and wingtipped one that sailed into some CRP. Sent the dog and watched as an eagle swooped in to claim the goose. Well the dog charged in and the eagle and dog were about to have an argument about whose goose it was when I showed up. I ran straight at them, the eagle, the dog, and the goose. When I was about 30 ft from them the eagle decided he wanted no part of the goose afterall. He flew off and the dog picked up the little goose and brought it to me. First I ever had a confrontation with an eagle over anything. It is a sight I'll never forget.

I had almost the same instance happen to me this past seaon drgildy. I had shot a canadian goose while duck hunting on the mattaponi river in my native VA. The goose was about 50 yards from us just across a slew we has the decoys set in. We had a younger eagle hover about 40 feet or so over the goose for a solid ten minutes. He was certainly thinking about going after it as he made several low passes, and then pulled off at the last second. We made it to the goose before he did.

My best friend had one come down after a decoy this past winter as well.

Part of the fun of duck hunting, never know what you are going to see next.

i had something similar to that happen to me, kind of. Well we were goose hunting early morning, and i see a "dog" running out by us. I think to myself "wierd lookin dog". All of a sudden it charges a decoy and comes about 2 feet away, figures out it isn't a real goose and just stops and looks around. By then i could tell it was a coyote. After standing there puzzled for about a minute, it trotted off into the trees.

when i was about 10 years old, i shot a sparrow with a bb gun. it was crippled and sort of flopping around on the ground. from the corner of my eye i saw this bird diving down horizontally at a tremendous speed at the sparrow. it picked it up and flew off with it. that was probably the most incredible thing i saw that year, and probably emotionally comparable to what you saw if you consider the age of the viewer.

Here in michigan, we have experienced many coyotes stalking/charging field goose dekes, but never have seen an aggressive eagle....cool story!

That's some wild stuff! Here's a couple that happened to me;

I was wading a river hoping to jump some ducks when 3 wood ducks flushed from an eddy. I fired and missed. I just stood there hanging my head for about 20 seconds when one of them came flying back. I could not believe my good fortune. Then I seen there was a hawk chasing it. The hawk tried to grab it in mid-air but come up short with a few tailfeathers flying. At this the wood duck veered into the trees along the bank losing the hawk who didn't seem to want to follow. I shot the wood duck in the tree's and it fell. Now the hawk must have thought he somehow got it because he landed in a tree and seemed to be looking for a way to retrieve it. I couldn't believe the shot didn't bother him. It wasn't until I started to climb up the bank that he flew away.

Once while duck hunting a small river a huge buck (and I mean huge) was tagging a doe when his course took him right in the middle of my decoy spread. When the ducks failed to move out of his way I could actually see his eyebrow curl as he seem puzzled. He then looked up to see my buddy and I with our jaws down around our chest not 15yds away on the bank. His next emotion was one of fear but since we wasn't moving he kind of just slinked off making like we didn't even see him LOL. My buddy went back (his spot) and hunted for him but never seen him again.

I got a story similar to the coyote ones, I was jump shooting a small pond at the back of a corn feild on the farm. I didnt get anything at the pond and as i was walkin back through the stubble just over a little draw i could see the heads of about 12 canadians, big ole westerns! so i hit the deck and started to belly crawl towrds the geese tryin to stay in the cover of the little hill they were behind then out of the corner of my eye i saw a coyote come trottin out of the woods on the edge of the field and that wiley old dog charged the geese and ran em all off before i got into range. the coyote stayed out of range of my 12ga. also! i was pretty dissapointed that day but i figure the story and bein outside was reward enough.
