I stopped by Gander Mtn today to look around at some shotguns and a couple caught my eye. I handled a Camo Cynergy o/u that felt really nice but not sure if this is the gun I need. I am looking for a 12 gauge that will be good for ducks, geese, turkery, skeet, and some bird hunting. I am hoping to find a gun that fits all of these activities. I have always wanted an O/U but wanted to hear from those of you with more experience whether I should get the O/U to cover all of the above or would I be better off going with a semiauto for this?

semi auto will give less kick, and can hold more shells... but it's really up to you, browning makes some nice guns and i'm sure you would be happy with the cynergy

I own a Cynergy O/U Classic field (wood & straight butt plate).

I also own a Beretta Extrema in camo of course.

I just bought the browning silver 28" Ive only used it for ducks so far very nice looking gun, and soft shooting w/ 3" steel, when I bought it I took it to the range and put a bunch of different types of shells through it, it cycled all no problem. Its wood, silver and gloss blue finished but the ducks dont seem to be scared of it. I like it cause I can hunt w/ it, and it will still look good at the range.

Over and unders suck in pits. If you are not going to hunt pits, you just have to decide if you want the third shot or not. I prefer the third shot in case a bird is hit and trying to get out of there.

I have a 20 gauge Browning Silver Hunter and an old 16 gauge Mossberg 500.

I really liked the feel of the Cynergy but not sure what gun I will end up with. As I said I have always wanted an o/u but at the same time I can pick up a Benelli SBE II for $300 cheaper than the Cynergy or a Beretta Extrema for $500 cheaper. So this definitely makes the decision a little more difficult. As much as I like the Cynergy the SBE and Extrema are definitely proven semi's.

Wouldn't sell/give up my Extrema for anything !

I use it for all my waterfowl & turkey hunting.



The Cynergy is my "range gun" and for fancier upland hunts.

I have a Stoeger O/U Condor which is my "field gun"; meaning I beat-up............



My 20 is a SxS; Marlin LC Smith

Both the Cynergy O/U & the Marlin LC Smith SxS won "shotgun of the year".

I have both and much prefer the Cynergy:

The biggest advantage an O/U has is choke selection. The biggest advantage a semi-auto has is a third shot (waterfowl) or follow up shots for upland or downed and wounded birds. Other than that they are both shotguns and good for whatever you plan to do with it.
