my hunting buddy has been begging me to go goose hunting with him this year. normaly i dont hunt anything that i cant hunt with my bow. I have agreed to go with him.
My question is what do i need to know. what might i need. I have been dove and pheasant hunting numerous times so i do have a little experience wingshooting. any help is appreciated.

You will need steel shot instead of lead and i cant really tell you what you need because i dont know what you have or will be using already.
basically you need a hunting license waterfowl stamps, whateve else MO requires to hunt waterfowl.
Usually around here if someone invites you to go all you will need is your own gun and shells. they will normally have everything else
hope you have a good experience. You never know you might just get hooked

I would recomend investing in some good equipment IE: 3-1/2 chambered 12 gauge, fowl weather gear like chest waders with 1000 insulate minimum good waterproof water fowl jacket, a gear bag for ammo lunches etc etc if your bud has everything else like decoys calls and all that stuff your set if not he can tell you what else would be needed

Yeah like the other guy said, if someone invites you to go goose hunting, most likely they will have everything, but your gun and your steel loads! 3 1/2 mags. are in my opinion the best for geese in BB shot! There are many brands that range in price! If i were you i would get the Power clucker goose call From Zinks calls! you can get it with an instructional DVD for 30.bucks and its a great easy blowin call for beginners! If your on the market for a new gun and dont wanna spend alot of money, then i would go with the Benelli Nova Pump! Averages around 439.00 new and is a great shooting durable gun!
If your buddy doesnt have a layout blind, then i would look into that too! Some good camo in Advantage Max 4 HD would be a good idea too! Decoys are expensive and your buddy probably already has those! A goose flag is nice to have, to entice those birds from far away! but use it sparengly or they will bust and go away! I hope this Helps you and if you need anymore info just let me know,
Thanks,
Team Fowlplayaz!
And good luck, I dare you not to get HOOKED!

ok well shotgun wise could be fun. i ahve been very successful in resisting the 3 1/2 craze for turkeys. as a matter of fact i still use my grandfathers 1100 with 2 3/4. i go to long lengths to pattern it and make sure i have the most effective load and know my effectiveness.
i will think have to think about buying a new gun especially since i even bowhunt my turkey now. maybe i canfind a way to bowhunt geese. i have seen it done. lol
deke wise i know he has some but i might be willing to purchase some my self. afterall i'll spend 60 bucks on a single turkey deke so why not.
i'll hunt just about anything so i'll probably keep doin it in moderation.
nothing will surpass my bowhunting as of this point in time.

Your 2 3/4" shotgun will do just fine, i have been shooting geese for 9 years now and i have yet to use a 3 1/2" shell. I would go with 1 or 2 shot so that will give you a few more pellets. As far as buying decoys i would talk to your buddy to see what he thinks about it and wait to see if it is a sport that you want to get into. You also might want to look into some waterfowl type camo.

Honestly, Your 2 3/4 in. 1100 will drop geese! BUT if your hunting with guys using 3 1/2 mags your going to be at serious disadvantage! You will not have near the range or near the amount of Shot! But like i said your 1100 will do the trick, but for this boy, i want all the advantages i can get! My grandfather also had and 1100 and it had a 30 in. barrel and was full choke! I can tell you this, My benelli defineatly aint my grandpa's Gun! I gotta oil that thing and clean it after each use and if i dont, i get rust and it doesnt cycle right! Not my benelli, It doesnt rust and its a breeze to clean! I would never spend money on any other shotgun, besides a benelli or Berreta! I do like remingtons but i dont think they are worth as much as what they are going for these days, with the exception of the 870 and the 1187 waterfowl!
