My big Chocolate Lab is named " Jake" also. His brothers and father were all named after John Wayne characters. Some include " Rooster" , " Hondo" , " Mac" short for " McClintock" , among others. A good set of names for a pair of dogs would be " Pork" and " Beans" . " Stump" , " The Max" , and " Boz" are a couple of other good names that I have heard in the past.

I have a yrs old Springer Spaniel (three months ago) that came with the name " Pete:. I found out that all Springers have a range when in the woods. His is over a 100 yds (which is not good) at least until he get' s trained in the field. I was told he is definitely a ranger, ranging left and right in search of a scent. ....His name is now " Ranger Pete" !

My black lab was going to be named " Drake" , but on our way to pick him up my daughter commented that since our mutt was her sister' s shaddow this dog was going to be my shaddow. How could I argue with that.

I forgot to mention we used to raise beagles. We had a Popcorn, and his son Kernel. My favorite name was Roscoe P. Coldtrail, gotta love them Dukes of Hazzard.
