Goose Behavior?
First I wish to thank all of the members that responded to any of my questions and for the valuable info that this forum contains. I killed my first goose this year and it is a rush. Got 13 so far with a few days left.
I was wondering if any one could recomend a good book about goose behaviors and or patterns? I have a field in the Braidwood area and the geese have unpredictable to me. 1 bluebird day they fly well, next bluebird day nothing. Single digit day - covered up, next one nothing.
Have ant of you found something to shed light on this or what have you guys experienced?
Thanks,
Frank

RE: Goose Behavior?
No idea on a book
I have have been goose hunting for 30+ years
Most of the time I can predict their behavior
But some times they still throw me for a loop
I have found
They fly before and after a storm front
If a clear night , they will fly with a good moon and then again in 12 hrs
Normaly they don't fly in heavy rain
If there is high winds they normaly will not fly , but as soon as it calms down they fly night or day if there is a moon
If cold , they will fly to a feild , feed then sleep in the feild , feed again then fly to roost late
If the wind changes direction a little from the day before , the geeses flight path may change with the wind
If they find a spot they like with water and food and not pushed off
They may stay on the feild for days and never move enpect to strech their wings
Take off , circle a time or 2 and land
If they are pressured , all bets are off
Hunt their roost and they move
Sometimes never returning the rest of the season
