NO..... It is not legal to shoot a duck on water. You either wait for them to get up / fly in. Or if your really itchy to shoot, make some noise and spook them to fly...... But, dont shoot um' on the water. Thats a n0 - n0!!!

It's perfectly legal to shoot a duck on the water...It's a question of ethics. Some people will, some people won't. Some people say they won't and still do! But, it's not against the regs.

Hmmm, Ratus you might want to call up your states DNR, Wildlife managment or who ever regulates hunting in your state. Because, unless the regs changed within the last few years I know of at least one state where you could not shoot em' on the water..... Better be safe about it and call or look in your states rulle book before you go out!!!!

It's legal in NY. It's been done before. Always prefer to shoot them on the wing, but we have definately taken birds on the water, especially cripples.

Hmmm, looks like I was lied to since I was taught to duck hunt....... I was always told it was illegal, so never actually looked if it was or not. Guess it was my uncle's way of teaching me to be a "good sport". Never taken a bird on the water and never will......

*I was still lied to though*

I will shoot divers on the water if they swim in and the water is deep but never puddlers. Its just way more fun to pop them up.
