Doug where were you hunting when you took your first goose, like as in where at in Maryland. I just moved from the Frederick Md. area but grew up on the Easternshore all of my younger years. Just wondering if you were kinda local cause I still do some waterfowl hunting when I get the chance and have almost 80 goose decoys for the feild and about 2 dozen for hunting over water, and plenty of duck decoys also. Just have not had the chance to use them over the past 2 years...

Congratulations! I shot my first geese 12/23/06, canadian geese. I shot twice and dropped two!!! Beginners luck. The second shot I saw the goose start to come down. I didn't see the first goose begin to fall, but my hunting partner swears it was my shot and not his that dropped him. Well . . . OK, if you say so! I confess that this success is not representative of my wing shooting skills -- 1:4 is about what I am doing on ducks this season. It was very exciting. These are big birds. They look stately in flight and have a nobel sound when they are honking.

My fingers (particularly my thumb) got tired plucking the feathers off of those two geese. I sat on the side of my sister-in-law's house and stuffed as much of the feathers as I could manage into a garbage bag, but it still looked like someone had exploded a sleeping bag out there! In the future I will try to pluck and field dress the birds at the hunting site. I saved the entire goose -- not just the breast -- and intend to roast each of the geese, provided I can find an agreeable recipe. One goose weighed 6 LBS 8 Oz; the other goose weighed 6 LBS 13 Oz. Both these weights are dressed, plucked, head and feet removed.

Congrats on #1. It is such a thrill to see them heading your way. I do recall my first and it was 30+ years ago. Now i love to take out a new guy, each time out, show him the set up and let him blaze away. Hunt with a regular foursome and we do very well. I do most of the calling and call to action.... I too suffer from withdrawls after the season is over !!!! The Rem 1100 - 2 3/4is all cleaned and ready to go again.

Cheers
