Not to sound like a BUTT, if you want a dog go to the pound but if you want a proven retreiver they will cost well over $1000. If you try and train them yourself you can get a pup for $500 to $900, my suggestion though would be to make sure there are some hunting blood lines in the pup these willbe shown on his/her AKC papers. You can contact NAHRA (North American Hunting Retreiver Association) to find a reliable breeder.

Train the ones u got man. All it takes its time and a decent gene pool. Havent seen a lab yet that wouldn't hunt. But i hear there are some. Screw the ones that say you have to pay that much with. The right training program granted u do it step by step and dont rush it. Rember it takes time you should be able to train the one you got. I had a friend that trained a 7 year old yellow male. I know its unsuall but he did it. Like i said you dont have to pay 1000 for a good dog i payed 250 for mine and he does just fine

Here's my 9 month old male Lab.got a deal on him at $600.00.just took the time to train him myself.this picture might show what kind of drive he has. At 6 month's old he got his first 2 pass's at a NAHRA field test.2 more pass's for his first title..All the way down his paper's are MH & GMH.like I said I got a heck of a deal for the $$$$$
