Kybar,
Good choice on the Mac and FCP. Some suggestions from a long time Mac user:
Before you buy, look at Apple's web site for refurbished computers.
Get a Mac Pro.
Buy the basic machine from them, buy extra memory and hard drives from someone else. I've used Other World Computing for years with zero complaints.
Use internal sata drives. Forget about external drives, especially USB drives, no good for video transfer.
Once you go Mac you'll never go back.

That is why I use external drives with firewire connections. If you can get a 5tb internal drive for your mac book pro then I would recommend it...

Thanks for the replies guys! I was pricing internal hard drives from Apple and a 1TB is $250. Anyone have any specific recommendations for after-market internal drives supplied by places like Other World Computing?

I've been using Western Digital and Maxtor internal drives with one WD failure a long time ago.
