Default Over all - Dove report

I heard two weeks ago in North Carolina by my cousin that the DNR there said there were very few younger birds this year.

Up untill last week I had'nt noticed the numbers of birds.

They seem to be normal here in Burke Co. Georgia

Today was one of the best dove shoots I've ever been on.
Both my dad and myself limited out before four o'clock.
And my son's first time dove hunting (11 years old) surprised the heck out of me. He shoot six birds!

Maybe thats why this hunt seemed so good

Congrats on your son's first hunt, Mike. He sounds like a natural. My 3 yr old daughter crys to go with me until I tell her that there are grasshoppers in the field. Her time will come. BTW, probably half of my opening day limit of 12 were juvy birds. One of my second day birds was so immature that I had to look twice when I picked him up to make sure I hadn't shot something else.

Went hunting in Yuma, AZ over labor day weekend. Lot's of birds, mostly good sized too. The 3 days that I went, most of the group limited by 7:30 (I managed to limit in 40 minutes on day this year...best shooting day ever).

Here in Oklahoma there are plenty of birds. All seem are young birds and none of the northern doves have made it down yet. Still waiting of the first good cool front for that to happen. I have limited out 4 of the 5 days I have went out and shot 12 on the day I didn't get my limit.

I live in Arkansas, but spent the opening week in California hunting out of Bakersfield. We did fairly well, but found a lot more posted land then we had found around Palm Springs the year before. No white wings, but saw a lot of pigeons. I took some of the smallest doves that I have ever seen, but had a blast.

I was not to far from were you hunted (just over the border). If they were that small they might of been Mexican dove. You got to watch shooting them, that will get you nailed.

I didn't do that bad this year which suprised me because the fact i didn't go dove hunting last couple of years. I have to agree about the small doves, i ended up getting some young ones with pin feathers still on their bodies. I can't say what number I have gotten because i didn't really keep count but i got my first double which was hella cool. I don't know if i will go hunting on the second half of the season, usually what i do is when i am out quail hunting and happen to see a dove coming in, i'll take a shot or two, hit or miss, oh well, i am there for the quail
