does anyone use a 12 gauge 3"

Does anyone use a 12 gauge 3" shotgun for upland birds such as, pheasants, partridge or grouse?
Because I'm getting a Mossberg 500 12 gauge 3" pump action.

thank you mark

I have used 3" for turkey and pheasant but usually use 2 3/4 for small game. That is one of the beauties of a longer chamber, I shoot a 3 1/2" nova and i can shoot any load out of it.

i have the same gun as you and i shoot 3" on occasion it just depends how the birds are flying but if you shoot to much it`ll kill your shoulder i usually use 2 3/4" shells

That's awesome! How does your gun work for you? IS it okay? Would you buy another model from mossberg?

i love my mossberg its a great "economy" gun there decent priced and ive never had a problem with it the military and police even use them so that should tell you something right there if the military wants them when i bought mine it was the "persuader" model with pistol grips and an 18.5" barrel but i bought a rifled slug barrel and a vent rib barrel so i could use it for more then a toy and its truley a great gun and i think the model 500 has been around for a long time but ive shot alot of shells though this gun from 3" magnum slugs to cheap old walmart taget loads and its never jammed or had a single problem so id have to say yes id definatly buy something else from mossberg and im actually thinking about getting a mossberg turkey gun

I use a 2 3/4" shell for phesants. It's a pretty hot load at around 1,300 fps of 1 3/8oz of shot. My best buddy uses the same load in a 3" shell. If you want to use a 3" shell for upland it would be fine. A 2 3/4" shell will do and is a more popular choice.

I use 3" for pheasants but mostly because I am already stocked up from hunting ducks that morning. You can find better deals for 2 3/4 shells so if I am stricktly after pheasants then I usually shoot those.

get the 3" gun just because it's versital enought to hunt waterfowl/turkey. but 3" is a bit overkill in my opinion on upland game, i use 2 3/4" 6 shot ...works great.
