Default RE: Is a 20 guage ok to hunt pheasant with?

If you use a 20 ga I would use # 6 shot .I would rather have a full choke over a modified but thats just me.

Your 20 gauge should do fine on preserve pheasants....just remember not to stretch your shots like you might be tempted to do with a 12 gauge and you should do fine. As for loads, I would recommend that you go with at least 1 oz of #5 shot (#6 would be my second choice). I would also not scrimp on a few bucks for a box of shells, and would buy premium ammo with copper or nickle plated shot. You will get better patterns by using these shells. Good luck and good hunting; let us know how you did!

Thats all I use. I have a little SXS 20ga, Im partial to #5s myself. I like Rem Express long range. Ive knocked some down at 60 yards with this load.

no problem. I use a ruger o/u with mod/full as chokes with 7 1/2 shot 3in shells. You can let them go alittle before your shot. Good Luck John

keep'em in your sights

I shoot state raised birds around here. You could kill them with a .410 if you wanted.

...a 20 gauge is good enough to hunt deer with. i'd say you could get pheasants with it
