RE: Dove season, Sept 1.
Strut,
We have a pheasant preserve in Ohio. We have planted a variety of different plants to attract doves. We are hoping to attract a lot of doves for the hunters who come here. What would you plant , besides sunflowers, to attract doves? Thank you very much, Sunset........ :) |
RE: Dove season, Sept 1.
Around this part of the country they really go after wheat, The best is a freshly plowed field with wheat sown in it. But I have also had some pretty good hunts out of a freshly combined wheat feild, I have a buddy that hunts over sunflower and he really gets alot of shooting but I have always stuck with wheat.

RE: Dove season, Sept 1.
Me and Mojo (my dog) are ready as well. We have been practicing multiple blind retrieves in a half cut corn field a couple evenings a week. This will be his first dove season. He has one duck and goose season under his belt. Now all I have to to is drop multiple birds. I do not shoot much trap so it usually takes me a box of shells to get back into the swing of things. Definately helps come duck season. I hunt in Western Oklahoma near the Red River. I have an Uncle that manages a fertilizer COOP so we always have tons of land to hunt. We usually hunt a freshly cut and baled mylow field. The dove really seem to like it. The large round bales make a great hiding place.
