Default Maine or New Hampshire Birds

Trying to line things up for next year and was wondering if anyone knows of some decent public or timber property land thats has grouse. Would like to check it out this winter while the season is down if possible. Hunted NH land this season for pheasants and it was real bad...I think the stocking program needs some real attention.
Anyone hunt any club preserves they would suggest?

Most land above the lakes region starts to get good.
Anything above the notch is real good...

Never been much for pheasant, but if you don't hit the fields within a day or two after stocking its tough going...
Especially without a dog!

I live in Bangor, Maine, Just north of Bangor is hundreds of thousands of acres of timber land that is privately owned but has public access. We hunt this area regularly for grouse, (we call em pahtridge) and wood****. With a dog you should be able to limit out everyday and see very few other hunters. The bird season starts on Oct. 1. The deer season starts the first Saturday of November. I would avoid November if you are using dogs otherwise no problem.
I will be glad to provide you specific directions to the areas north of Millinocket, ( north Maine woods) or just north of Bangor in the Stud Mill road area.

Northern maine has some real good grouse hunting! Mostly because of the all the wood they cut. Lots of good logging roads to travel so make sure you have a GPS handy. I would also try for some rabbits because you'll get board if max out on birds. Also consider getting aftr some coyotes! The deer could sure use it.
