We hunt them alot back home in teh U.P. of MI, as far as having them here in IL, have only ever seen one, and that was at night in the headlights. Not really enough around to even bother targetting them.

Redskin Archer...the best way is with a dog, really the only way in my opinion. We hunt young popple and tagalder and especially along wet edges with a dog, a fairly open shotgun pattern and light loads such as 8 or 9 shot. Its lots of fun, but thick cover!

We used to get into a few of them in the creek bottoms at the beginning of the rabbit/quail season in southern Illinois. It certainly livened things up.
I've also hunted them in south Louisiana a couple times, jump shooting them without dogs in young pine growth. Pretty fun too.
