I like using #5 shot. I hunt over pointing dogs with open chokes at times it can be a longer shot than intended and #5 works well without putting to much shot into table fare. It also works great in early or late season instead of swithing from 6 to 4. If we come upon quail, woodcock, huns depending on where I am hunting I switch to 8 shot sellors&bellot sporting clay shells rather than field loads. I use FIOCHI golden pheasant #5 shot for pheasant. This combination has worked well for me and I feel confident not only in the gun I am using but the selection of shot which has been proved and tested under field conditons over and over any way it works for me. Check out the prices at Cabela' s or a local distributer in your area. I also would suggest buying just a box or two and see for yourself but I believe you will be more than satisfied depending on how your gun patterns the shot?????

Ed,

I like to reload my own. I shoot 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 with shot mixed 5 and 7 1/2. Some of the guys in my club like the Fiochi' s and a lot of them use good ole Winchester AAs in 7 1/2 shot. Good luck and remember... what works best for you is best for you.

I shoot #5 shot pretty much exclusively on the occasions I go after wild roosters. Best load there is for pheasant. I like the Remington Express Long Range version in my 20-bore.

you need to call Mike at Baschieri & Pellagri of America (972)726-9073 or check out their web page at www.bandpamerica.com. These are some of the finest shotshells in the world and they are quite affordable. You do have to buy them a case at a time, though. The quality of the shot itself is probably better than anything you can buy elsewhere.

First i shoot remington shur shot, 1 oz. of 6s, at 1165 fps, last fall i shot over 350 wild birds from pheasant chukars huns quail(4 of the 6) ruffs blue grouse sage and sharptails, always with the same shell, they sell for upwards of 5 bucks a box.
Second i wouldnt shoot a winchester unless it was a double A, they have (winchester) have and still use cardboard wads and platsic wrap for wads.
